The Smart Growth Task Force and the Village of Yellow Springs, Ohio, are hosting a series of events on economic development to feature Michael Shuman. A free, public forum on January 16 will kick off the events and will review the essentials of localized economic development. Following will be a 1.5-day workshop to review specific tools and concepts in more detail, with an eye toward developing an implementable action plan(s) for Yellow Springs. A range of local organizations and businesses have been invited, but anyone may attend the workshop if they pay a small registration fee.
The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) will host a local economic development workshop in Washington, D.C. Details forthcoming.
Michael Shuman will speak and take part in a planning meeting hosted by The University of Minnesota, which is leading an economic development effort in the iron mountain region of Minnesota.
Michael Shuman will speak at a series of conferences and events in Bellingham, Seattle, and Port Townsend in Washington state.
The Rural Development Initiatives' Regards to Rural VI conference is a gathering for information, inspiration and celebration of all that is rural in Northwest North America. The conference will take place March 20-21 with pre-sessions on March 19; all events will be held at the Salem Conference Center in downtown Salem, Oregon. After a popular talk at last year's conference, Michael Shuman was invited back and will serve as one of two keynote speakers at this year's event.
The 7th annual Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) conference will take place in Denver, Colorado over Memorial Day weekend 2009. From May 21-23, hundreds of leaders in the local green economy will gather to chart out the next phase in the expansion and success of sustainable economies. BALLE's 2008 conference in Boston drew more than 500 visionaries, entrepreneurs, business owners, economic development professionals, local government officials, and community leaders from all across the US and Canada for three days of inspiration and education-for-action to build the new economy.
Michael will be speaking at a range of events across Australia during this window. For our Aussie colleagues (or anyone else with a well-developed travel habit), we’ll post more details when we have them.
